Hunting is not catch and release!

This past week has been our gun season here in Ohio. It started out with rain so we didn't get to go out until Tuesday.

Tuesday morning Nick put down a doe with a muzzleloader. Then on Wednesday, Nick put down another doe with the 12 gauge pump and Jon used a muzzleloader to get another doe.

On Wednesday, we went down and purchased me a Pink 20 gauge. I told the guys that I can't get a deer unless I'm shooting pink lol.

So Thursday we went out. Willie was using muzzleloader, Nick with the 12 gauge pump, and me with my pink 20
Gauge. Unfortunately, we didn't see anything.

So today Nick had work, so it was only me and Willie. We started on the ridge looking over the bottom field. We waited for a while and there was just nothing moving. So we decided to head to the area over looking area 2. We've noticed the deer hiding down there.

As we was walking to our spot we scared two out of bed that had bedded down in area two near the path. We was able to get set up and have shots on each of them but they was terrible shots.

So we waited around to see if we could get them in a better position but they headed towards the creek. After waiting for a while we decided to go back to area 3 and set up there for a while. We set there for 30 minutes or so and didn't see anything.

We moved back to area two with no luck. As we was headed back up to the ridge to look over the lower field we seen the two we woke up running. As we got up on the ridge we heard a shot and knew that one of the two was shot.

We got up there and set up and watched the guy across the creek head towards the property we hunt. He was wearing full camo and no orange. We was talking about how stupid he was for being out there like that. As he approached the creek he scared the one he didn't shoot back across the creek.

The doe came up about 60-70 yards a way. Willie asked me if I had it and I said yep, and pulled the trigger. The doe dropped.

So all it takes is me to be shooting pink and I can get a deer. Thankfully this one we found and I didn't loose my poor deer. It's not the biggest deer but hey it's my first for gun and I was able to find it. So much better than what happened to my buck.

My first slug to go through my 20 gauge was a deer killer! You really can't beat that. So one tag down 5 more to go! I have 4 does and a buck left to get.

  1. Congrats! Sounds like that pink 20 ga has created a monster killing machine ;)
