I went out Saturday morning! It was chilly that morning so I got to try out my new realtree She camo.
Despite the thinness of the set it was still warm. I had on only a long sleeve t-shirt and thin hunting pants underneath. despite the low 50 temps and all the misty it was doing, I was nice and toasty.
The Bogs was great, too. The insulation saved my toes from freezing in the mud, wind, and rain.
I also decide to try facepaint this year. I dont think sold on the idea. For starters I love not having to have a mask. When it comes to having it on though, my face itches and I'm smearing the paint everywhere! Then it doesn't want to come off either.
My poor face was scrubbed raw after the two hunts on Saturday. not sure I'll try it again.
Even though I was out in the stand before daylight and stayed until 10:30am I never seen a deer:(
That evening I was back out at 4:00pm giving an evening hunt a shot. I stayed until almost 8pm but nothing came around again.
Yesterday morning, Willie and me accidentally slept over. We forgot to turn the alarm on but lucky for us Nick came in and woke us up.
We got out there a little later And was out in the stand about 7am. We stayed until 10:30am when the rain started. During the 3 hours nobody seen anything.
We was back in the stands at 1 pm. The temperature raised to a warm mid 70's which was killing me in my insulated pants.
Willie came over from the blind to find out what happened to me since I was in mid sentence with him when the walkie talkie died. I couldn't text him either since my dang iPhone can't handle a full day on one charge either.
So he came over and got in the two man with me about 5 o'clock. That's when I decided to hell with the deer, if I even wanted a chance to stay another 2 hours I was gonna have to go pee before my bladder exploded.
So I snuck back up the hill to willies grandmas house. Came back down and was all settled on waiting for deer to come by. Then at 6pm here came nick.. He was done.
There was a doe that was making her way to my stand when Nick came through. Of course he scared her and ruined my chance:(
So we decided that we would stick to evening hunts for a while. The only time we've really seen deer activity there last year and this year was in the evening. (I tried to tell them Friday that evening was the best time.. But guys don't listen. They insisted that morning would be great to get something). So we will now try my theory out and see how it works.
