So we have 10 more days until our season opens. I am more excited this year, I now know more of what I am doing and why. We've been prepping hard and trying to tweak as we go. So far we are pretty sure that we like where our stands are bit that doesn't mean will not move them again lol.
Today we went out to put up the ghetto stand. This stand is 18-20 foot tall. Plus it's a pain in the ass to climb in. The platform on it is larger so it sticks out a good 4-6 inches past the top rung of the ladder.
We put this stand up in what my daughter calls the haunted forest. This area has deer bedding down in it. We realized it last week when we went through and scared some off. So of course we have to throw one up.
We also checked the cams of course! The wait has been killing me:) The first camera is at the 2 man stand with the scrape strip. We had 18 photos! I was so excited... All 18 though was of a branch:( Yep we forgot to trim one up. So we did that lol.
The second camera is on the trail that goes to all the stands. Here is where we put out crab apples. We only had 6 photos but we did manage to capture two does munching away.
The third camera is by the creek. This one also has the drip scrape. We didn't have many photos here either. To our amazement we found antlers in one! Yep antlers again. Unfortunately, it's a baby 4 pt. Not the buck we are looking for. So he's not on our list of kills.
The temp here today was 61*! a bit cooler than what it has been so I got to do some field testing on the bogs. The mud was thick, it had rained most of this morning, and to my amazement they stood up to the task. I even was walking around in the creek in them.
The only problem I did have was the heel inside of the boot isn't very padded. So it likes to rub my heel. I was wearing basic ankle cotton socks so hopefully if I wear my hiking socks it'll be a little more cushioned.
The tread is alright on them but not perfect either. They have more traction than the muck boots but not as much as your regular hunting boot. Nick has the muck boot and we've been comparing notes Lol. He slipped around in the mud more than I did but Willie who was wearing Trekkers had no problems.
My feet even though the Bogs are insulated was a bit cold. Nothing I can't handle but had I been wearing my Trekkers my feet would've been warm. Plus with the mud and water being cold today I should've worn thicker socks. Might have made a bit of a difference since that's what I tend to wear with my other boots anyway. So next tome I go out I'll put on my hiking socks and give it a go again:)
