Opening Day of Squirrel

About 1am this morning Nick calls us and alerts us to squirrel season starting today! Ok, I'm always game to try hunting new stuff at least once. We decided we'd leave at 7:30am when Makayla would get on the bus.

Of course, the bus was running behind.. always does when you need to make it out of the house at a certain time. So we finally get to leave. Of course, gotta stop and pick up some water and snacks. I don't know what it is about being in a tree stand. But it makes me starve! So we finally get out there and the guys get's a call about a meeting for work.

All week they've been waiting to hear about if the mental health unit is getting closed down. The lawyer's have been fighting it but today's the last day if its a no go anymore.

 Of course, we pretty much have just a little time out in the stands=( So little in fact only one squirrel was seen and nobody had a good shot on it. Lol I didn't even put shells in the gun! So it's a good thing nothing really crossed my path. 

Not to mention that it was a miserable bit of time out there. The other women who has hunted with us a few times is the one that locked the stand down. Of course, she doesn't know much about the stands and how they work so when she locked it, she locked the gun rail down too. So currently the gun rail is flipped up and set's on the back of the seat. Let me tell you that gun rail in your back sucks! 

 Plus I forgot my harness.. I make it a rule that if I'm in a tree stand a harness is mandatory. Of course, my butt was shimming right back down the tree stand. So we ended up on the ground around the tree stands talking about deer season coming up.

I was only squirrel hunting to help me get over the itchiness of waiting for deer season. I don't eat squirrel but I'll shoot and cook it without a problem for those who do enjoy the little tree rats. Namely my hubby Willie and my son Matt Eh, Maybe next week we will get a chance to go out again and see if we can bring home some squirrel =)
