feeder in Area 2 |
Let's start with yesterday... We went out and pulled the feeder out of Area 2 since it's been doing nothing but flooding. I know the deer are probably hungry but I don't think they'll be really interested in bobbin for the corn. We moved the feeder over to Area 3 now that all the weeds are down. The sun is doing a nice job of baking the weeds and soon our field will be nothing but a small walnut tree and a feeder!
So we had to do a lot of scouting to figure out where the best place for the feeder was and where to put the stands. Now some how this gave the guys the brilliant idea of running through the mud puddles. Granted during their play time they did find another deer path that is heavily used. It's right off of Area 3 and goes to another field that we was talking about putting stands in. Now we have the proof we need to justify why we would put a stand over there. Now we did have to cut a nice path to where we was setting the stand up. The weeds down there are anywhere 3ft- 5ft high. Once the path was cut we was able to pick the tree and start cleaning it up. We put a two man up there, that way if our son wants to hunt he can have an adult with him at all times. Plus I love setting there with my hubby even if I don't shoot. It's nice way to spend sometime alone. Trust me, nobody wants to climb a tree to pester you!

feeder in Area 3 |
Now today we went out and put up another stand in Area 1. We are hunting on about 100+ acres. So each section is a good bit of land. We cut one solid path through the woods and each of these area's had a road going to the main one. We decided we was putting it further up what we call "The Point". We have a creek that runs through the property and Area 1 is surrounded on three sides by it. So we put up the "Tiny Guy". It's this small sling chaired stand that really not many can fit in unless you are tiny lol. My husband hates it! We set it up where we can have shots off each of the three deer trails from the creek. We changed the batteries in the camera and put out a salt block. We check the camera and to our disappointment we are still getting white outs! I'm so frustrated with this. We have moved it several times and everyday at the same time we have something coming in and we are getting the white out pics. We've tried video and it does the same thing! So we moved it yet again hoping that we will find the spot so we can get more than a few pics that we can actually see something in. Then we moved down to Area 3.

In area 3 we put out Black Magic and a salt block too. We refilled the feeder with corn and Apple and oat pellets and pulled the pictures from the camera. Now the camera's was only setting for one night and we didn't expect much through there since we have been working on it for 3 days now. We did however have a video!! It was a big fat Ground Hog! ugh, That thing drove me crazy last year. It would pop out and you could just hear it running around crunching in the snow, leaves, and everything. So we was trying to find where else to put a one man stand. This is one of our larger areas and the field can do 2 stands easily. So Willie and Nick was driving around trying to find a tree and making paths again. They couldn't find a good spot so I jumped on the back of Willies 4 wheeler and decided I'd go with them to find a different spot. We went up the area where I hunted at last year! The deer has a nice path coming off the our main that runs through this area. So we decided to check it out. I got smacked in the face by a thorn branch as big as my thumb! I had a large thorn in my upper and lower lip. Now that kind of smarted. Well as I was picking these thorns out of my face, We hear Nick who is behind us on his 4-wheeler saying something about bee's. We look and There is a swarm of bee's coming up from underneath him. Of course he's about a foot a way from us and I am allergic to bee's! My ass is off the 4-wheeler and I'm hauling ass outta there as quick as my short legs can take me. Luckily Willie and I missed them somehow and Nick was only stung twice. Of course, I'm a parent and I never leave home with out a first aid kit so I get it out and apply some sting relief on him and we decided that Mother Nature was saying FU and it was time to come home.
