Cleaning Area 3

So we went out to check the deer cam's today! I was so excited since I wanted to see more than one deer in Area 1. We moved the camera hoping to catch the deer making all those tracks...but to our disappointment there was only the lonely deer there=( I know why we are only catching one there. Last year we was able to catch many deer down there. I don't know if it's from just the placement or what. Surely all those tracks over there isn't from one lonely deer. I guess we should be lucky to see the one lol but I'm so hoping to run into my big buck that I missed last year! So far I can't get a pic of him. I couldn't get one last year either. I'm starting to wonder if they are on the other side of the river this year. Maybe we should station most of our hunting on that side and see how it goes. Here in a few weeks maybe I'll go down and scout a few area's and put up a few camera's to see how many deer we see and what kind.

We went down to Area 2 and of course where it rained yesterday and last night..it was flooded. The poor deer are bobbin for corn again. This time though we didn't catch as many pics of raccoon's. Now that we moved the feeder out in the middle of the area there are no tree's for them to climb up to get on the feeders. we have only one pic of a deer hiding in the weeds. Yet again only one pic of a deer! It's more than we have seen in the last few weeks down there though. So I'm happy about that but this also could mean that with the way it flood's every time it rains, it may just not be a good spot for anything but Coon hunting. So next week we are pulling the feeder and moving it to Area 3. We may still stick up a one man down there to give that spot a try but it's not good to lure the deer too. Not many deer have scuba gear in order to feed.

Area 3 before

Area 3 After

The three of us did however finally get time to work on Area 3!! We went in and all the weeds was over 5 feet tall. So we had to figure out a quick easy way to trample them down.. Guess how we did it? We used some chain link fence!! It was something we had extra on hand and it work! We tied it to the back of the 4 wheeler and stuck a log on for weight and off we went dragging it behind us. We had the stuff down in no time. Last year the guys went out and worked for weeks on two of these area's! We didn't even have Area 2 last year. They took chainsaw's and weed eaters and cleared every path and field by hand. This year we are looking for easier ways of getting it done. Especially with the heat being 99 degree's today. That type of work with that heat causes heat strokes easily. So we thought of the chain link fence idea to get it done quickly. We did scout out down there to see how many stands we are needing and where we are going to place them. Area 3 is our biggest set up so far and I want at least 3 stands in that section. It's big enough to have all 4 of us hunting it with no problem. Now while we are moving the feeder from Area 2 we can go and finish getting Area 3 cleared out and start getting everything set up! God I'm so excited=)
